A member of law enforcement had a very curious song playing when he arrived on the scene to arrest former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore.
In dash cam footage of the December 10 arrest obtained by the The Detroit News on Thursday, January 22, Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” can be heard playing in a police car as it pulls into The Well Church in Saline, Michigan. The radio appeared to be tuned to a local radio station.
Moore, 39, was fired from his position at the university after an investigation uncovered an “inappropriate relationship” with a female staff member.
He was taken into custody hours after his termination after allegedly breaking into the apartment of the staff member and threatening to harm her and himself.
Sherrone has been married to his wife, Kelli Moore, since 2015 and the couple share three daughters: Shiloh, born in 2019, Solei, born in 2022, and Sadie, born in 2025.
In the dash cam footage, which has been heavily redacted, Sherrone was described by officers as “completely compliant.”
According to police, Sherrone was “just sitting in the car” in the church parking lot before being taken into custody.
In the hours before his arrest, Kelli had called 911 and told dispatchers she was concerned for Sherrone’s well-being.
“He said he is trying to kill himself,” Kelli pleaded.
When the dispatcher asked Kelli about Sherrone’s location, she said, “I don’t have a clue.”
“He just called me and said he got fired from his job. He’s in crisis,” Kelli continued. “I told him that I love him and that I need him to come home. But I don’t know where he is. He said he was at a highway.”
Sherrone was eventually tracked to the church parking lot, where he was arrested and booked on one count of third-degree felony home invasion, one count misdemeanor stalking related to a domestic relationship and one count misdemeanor breaking and entering.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on $25,000, ordered to wear a GPS tracking device and told to drop all contact with the staff member, who Sherrone admitted to having an affair with, but has denied ever becoming physically violent against.
In 911 audio from the day of the alleged incident, the staff member said Sherrone was “attacking” her and accused him of “stalking” her for months.
Sherrone appeared with Kelli at a probable cause conference on Thursday, January, 22, where his attorney called for the arrest warrant to be tossed.
“Sherrone Moore is innocent of these charges,” Sherrone’s attorney, Ellen Michaels, said outside the Washtenaw County courthouse. “Today, on behalf of Mr. Moore, we filed a motion to quash the arrest warrant and dismiss the complaint.”
Michaels claimed Sherrone’s arrest was “based on false and misleading statements presented as fact.”
Prosecutors have until February 2 to respond to the request to quash the arrest warrant.
A hearing is set for February 17 on additional discovery materials sought by the defense and a probable cause conference will now be held on March 19.
