I have to start by saying I don’t know how they managed to get Parker Young to play Blaze but however they did I am very grateful. This was by far the silliest episode of the series, and I truly wish I could have been in the writers room when this episode was coming to fruition.
I believe Blaze is a take on Stuart James from the original series who also lives in the woods, however as far as I am aware Blaze doesn’t see a 6-Foot-tall squirrel called Anthony. Although with the way Blaze is I’m not too sure he wouldn’t see that.
Blaze day was such an odd thing, but I did love to see Martin get a bit jealous when Blaze was doing the Huddle Position with Louisa. I truly have no idea why Blaze was acting the way he did, but it did cause a lot of humour. The ladies clearly loved him.
It seems like such a silly storyline but the Doc getting Brisket back was actually quite a good moment, I did love to see Greg and George be annoyed at him. They have always been good to him but clearly don’t mess with Brisket otherwise you will definitely be on their bad side.
The scene where the ladies get ready to go and find Blaze was done so perfectly. Martin was absolutely shocked that they all knew exactly what they were doing, obviously they were only going each year to see Blaze.
I loved Martin and Louisa searching for Blaze, the chemistry was cranked up so high but as always, they have a moment interrupted. It took a long time for the original show to have Louisa and Martin together officially and with the way things have been going I can’t see this version getting them together any sooner. Although I will never not be happy with getting to see the tension between them rise with each passing episode.
The Doc opening up to Elaine was such an emotionally raw scene, it choked me up a lot. We got to see Martin finally opening up to someone fully and I think he needed it just as much as Elaine needed to hear what he had to say.
The development of the characters has been relatively slow in these first four episodes, but I actually think that is what makes this show uniquely realistic. Often TV shows portray characters changing in the space of a few episodes but that’s not how real humans are. I really love that this show has gotten better with each episode.
I can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the season!
