Everyday it feels like yet another product launches, and to be quite honest, a lot of them miss the mark. A solid roll out and marketing campaign is one thing, but whether or not a product is actually worth adding to cart is quite another—especially in this damn economy. So when PATTERN hit us up to test their newest launch: The Repair 360 Leave-In Foam, we were all in.

The product boasts several claims, including bond repair through a blend of vegan proteins and amino acids, and heat protection up to 450°F, all while not weighing the hair down. Additionally, it pairs nicely with PATTERN’s newly re-launched hair steamer. Sounds good, right? But we’re not so easily convinced these days.

With three different hair types, textures, and styling methods, three ESSENCE editors and I came together to give PATTERN’s Repair 360 Leave-In Foam a try. Here are our honest reviews.

noting that the foam could be a great addition paired with the steamer and publish on Monday 2/2 in tandem with the steamer relaunching on Saturday.

Kayla Greaves, Contributing Beauty Editor

“Since abandoning my natural curls for a blown-out bob a few years ago, I am very particular about the products I use. My hair tends to run dry, so I need moisturizing products—but they can’t be too moisturizing, otherwise my hair will be stiff and weighed down.

I have to admit, I was quite skeptical about the Repair 360 Leave-In Foam before I used it. In my experience, foams have been something I’ve used as a part of a roller set, or a twist out. I’ve never tried any with direct heat and I was already pre-pissed thinking that my hair would be sticky or dried out. Still, I used two pumps in my hair and finger combed it through. I followed up with my Dyson and blow dried my hair effortlessly, then pressed it out with my flat iron.

As a Virgo, I hate being wrong. But for the sake of truth I have to admit: I was wrong. A week has passed, and my style is still holding up. The Repair 360 Leave-In Foam is, indeed, that girl.”

Akili King, Senior Beauty Editor

“If you know me, you know I’m a mousse girl when it comes to my curls. I’d always felt like they do it all (light weight hold, moisture, and definition, etc.) until now! The Pattern Repair 360 Leave-In Foam does all of this on top of protecting my hair from heat damage when I do my weekly post-wash diffusing sessions. I feel like my curls feel bouncy and soft throughout the week, needing little-to-no refresh between washes. I love pairing this with a flaxseed gel I’ve been making at home—elite combo I must say! Additionally, fragranced products can sometimes bother my sensitive, eczema-prone skin, but this foam’s scent is light enough and not disruptive.”

India Espy-Jones, Beauty Editor

“I wear braids almost all the time, so when I’m not, it’s important to have a product to not only protect my hair when I blow it out and prevent breakage, but also strengthen my natural texture when I’m wearing my ‘fro.   I don’t like my hair to feel like it has product in it, especially not anything unnecessary, but having a lightweight foam in my line up does the job without feeling like too much. I use it while my hair is still damp, so it really gets sucked into my coils.”

Mecca Pryor, Style Editor

“Ever since I cut my hair into a bob and started wearing it straight instead of curly, with monthly trims to maintain the shape, keeping my hair healthy and my curls intact has become a priority. With the bob now being my signature look, I’m always searching for new ways to protect my natural hair. The foam was the perfect layer to apply before blow-drying—not only protecting my curls, but also creating a voluminous, airy finish with each strand moving effortlessly in the wind.”
