We have now reached the first third of the shift, moving forward at a steady pace. This doesn’t mean the story has lost momentum. The cases remain compelling, and we continue to learn more about the main characters with every passing hour.

Episode Summary

Santos can’t seem to catch a break from her growing responsibilities, but she finds a way to keep up with patient care with Ogilvie’s help. Joy contributes a creative solution to assist a family, while Al-Hashimi and Robby closely monitor each other’s work. Javadi and McKay are assigned to a woman in critical condition, and Langdon and Robby must work together to save the life of a beloved patient.

Cases of the Week

There is always room for some humor in each episode. This time, Langdon treats a man who was burned by his brother with dry ice while attempting a reckless stunt. Although brief, the case provides some genuinely funny moments. Ogilvie also continues his learning process—this time in a lighter context. Under Santos’ supervision, and while she struggles to catch up on her charts, he is first exposed to tuberculosis and later assigned the unpleasant task of performing a manual stool disimpaction on an elderly patient.

On a more serious note, Mel, Whitaker, and Al-Hashimi treat Gus, a prisoner who was assaulted in jail. However, their work is complicated when a guard insists on keeping him handcuffed to the gurney. Meanwhile, McKay and Javadi care for Roxie, a woman in hospice who suffered a seizure at home. Through deeply moving scenes, we witness the devotion of her husband. This storyline also introduces the role of death doulas, who provide emotional support to terminal patients and their families.

Highlights

Orlando Díaz finally finds a way to reduce the costs of his treatment thanks to Joy’s idea of transferring him to another area of the hospital for his recovery, where expenses can be significantly lower. Despite Mohan’s initial hesitation, Nurse Hastings’ intervention helps secure a positive outcome. Through this case, we learn more about Joy and are invited to reconsider our perception of her.

Robby’s sabbatical continues to be a recurring topic. There hasn’t been a single episode in which someone hasn’t questioned it in some way. This persistent focus suggests that his plans may eventually change—or perhaps not, and the season will end with him riding away from The Pitt on his motorcycle.

The dynamic between Al-Hashimi and Robby remains largely unchanged. This time, however, they seem more aware of each other’s work. While there is a growing sense of mutual respect, they are still struggling to define how to collaborate when they occupy the same position. Robby, in particular, appears to have difficulty accepting this. Working alongside someone who will temporarily replace you is never easy, and it shows. Hopefully, they will eventually learn to coexist—at least for a full shift.

The episode opens with Robby and Langdon treating Debbie’s rapidly spreading leg infection, which turns out to be life-threatening. García is forced to intervene much earlier than expected due to Robby’s aggressive efforts to save her. Just as we see the two doctors working together at the beginning, the episode closes with them fighting to save Louie’s life. I’m genuinely worried about him, but if this crisis helps bring Robby and Langdon closer again, I’m willing to accept it—as long as he recovers.

Character of the Week

Joy Kwon: Although she has maintained a low profile and initially seemed disengaged, Joy’s creative solution for Orlando reveals more about her background and values. It’s encouraging to see her becoming more actively involved, and I hope future episodes continue to explore her potential.

Final Thoughts

While I continue to enjoy every episode of this season, I’m hoping the upcoming hours bring more intensity. At the same time, I sincerely hope Louie survives—he’s a likable character who has given us many memorable moments. I’m also eager to see Robby and Langdon finally reconcile after so much tension. Let’s see where the story takes us next.
