California Governor Gavin Newsom has officially declared Super Bowl Sunday as “Bad Bunny Day” in the state of California.

The announcement was made ahead of Bad Bunny’s scheduled halftime performance during Super Bowl LX, which will take place in Santa Clara.

Newsom shared the declaration on X, referencing the Puerto Rican artist’s upcoming appearance at the Super Bowl. The post follows a recent pattern of the governor using social media to comment on cultural events and public figures.

In the post, Newsom wrote:“As many people know, I am a tremendous lover of ‘the Spanish.’ It is a beautiful language spoken by many beautiful people in the great state of California and across the world. I am also a huge fan of Puerrrrrrrto Rico,” Newsom wrote. “That is why I am declaring tomorrow in California as ‘Bad Bunny Day,’ when Bad Bunny performs at the big game in the Golden State with his soothing, beautiful voice, and his very nice looks.”

The game will feature the New England Patriots facing the Seattle Seahawks.Bad Bunny is scheduled to perform during the halftime show. His appearance marks another high-profile moment for the artist, who remains one of the most-streamed musicians globally.

Bad Bunny’s Recent Career Milestones

Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, recently won Album of the Year at the 2026 Grammy Awards for Debí Tirar Más Fotos. The project became the first all-Spanish-language album to receive the award.

The Grammy win occurred one week before his scheduled Super Bowl halftime performance, further increasing attention surrounding his appearance at the event.

Reaction To Halftime Performance Announcement

Bad Bunny’s selection as the Super Bowl halftime performer has drawn both support and criticism. Some opposition has come from conservative political groups and commentators following the announcement.

In response, Turning Point USA announced plans to host an alternative event titled “The All-American Halftime Show,” which is scheduled to feature Kid Rock as the headlining performer.

Bad Bunny Addresses Immigration During Grammy Speech
