GOAT is a Truly Inspirational and Fun Adventure Ride — GeekTyrant

This last weekend, the family and I were treated to an advanced screening of GOAT. The Steph Curry-produced dream project hits on all points. I am a huge fan of the inspirational sport movie genre.

There are plenty of the them out there, and this is one is up there among the most fun. As far as the Everest of sports movies, that place is held by Remember the Titans. That would be a perfect ten, and this one hits around a 7.

GOAT follows a goat named Will Harris, voiced by Caleb McLaughlin (Stranger Things), as he makes his way through the city of Vineland with dreams of becoming a professional Roarball player. Roarball is a lot like our version of basketball with the big difference being that major obstacles and violence are not only part of the game, but a central theme.

His city of Vineland hosts the Vineland Thorns, who are led by not only Will’s favorite player, but the best Roarball player, Jett Fillmore (Gabrielle Union). However, due to the violent nature of the game, Will is considered too small to ever be considered a possible player in the league.

When an unexpected opportunity falls into his lap, will Will take full advantage of his fortunate circumstances or will he allow everything stacked against him break his spirit?

One of the hurdles he must overcome is the power house of a Horse that plays for another team named Mane Attraction (Aaron Pierre), who not only threatens Will’s future in the league, but the continued career of Jett.

With a voice cast that will entertain the movie goer, but is exciting for every basketball fan, the cast includes Stephen Curry, Nick Kroll, David Harbour, Patton Oswalt, and Jelly Roll. For you sports nuts, the voice cast also includes NBA/WNBA stars Dwyane Wade, Kevin Love, A’ja Wilson and Angel Reese.

This movie hits all of the points that a classic inspirational sports film needs: action, excitement, and above all, heart. We were lucky to see it in a crowd mixed with the young and old.

Everyone in the theater walked out with a huge smile on their face. If what you are looking for is a film appropriate for the whole family, this movie fits. I know that my kids are ready to watch it again.

GOAT hits theaters February 13th, and I would suggest to see it with a crowd in a packed theater so that you have more people to cheer with.
