Marvell may be bringing another obscure hero to the MCU! A rumor for Avengers: Doomsday seems to suggest a cult-favorite hero may finally be adapted (just not in the way fans might expect).

Fans have a lot of questions heading into Avengers: Doomsday. However, perhaps the one with the least clear answer is what Marvel plans to do with Steve Rogers’ kid. It’s likely that both Peggy Carter and Steve himself will be involved from saving the MCU from destruction, but it’s also not as though the two can just hire a babysitter for the end of the world.

While the question of what they’ll do in the short-term remains unanswered, a rumor mill may provide some insight on the child’s role later on in the MCU. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello recently posted that Steve Rogers’ son in Avengers: Doomsday will be named James Rogers, seemingly confirming that he’ll be a (loose) adaption of a long-forgotten but beloved hero from Marvel’s animated history.

Who Is James Rogers?

James Rogers is the son of Steve Rogers from the Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow animated film. He serves as the leader of the titular hero team in their fight against Ultron. While it’s possible that Avengers: Doomsday is just stealing the character’s name, it’s important to note that Kevin Feige was actually an executive producer on the film, which leaves the door open to at least a wink and a nod during the end of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.

It’s also important to note that a lot of heroes have been getting child versions of themselves leading up to Avengers: Doomsday: Thor’s adopted child Love, T’Challa’s son Toussaint, and now James Rogers. It’s possible that the MCU could adapt their own version of the Next Avengers in Secret Wars, bringing a new generation of heroes to life as a nod to the animated film.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
