Is Daniel Radcliffe the next Wolverine? The Harry Potter star reveals whether or not he’d want to take over Hugh Jackman’s coveted role in the MCU.

With the X-Men reboot now in development, a lot of ink has been spilled about who should take over the mantle of Wolverine in the MCU once Hugh Jackman finally puts down his claws. Dozens of names have been suggested, from Taron Egerton to Henry Cavill. However, perhaps the one that has had the most consistent support is Daniel Radcliffe.

While best known for his titular role in the Harry Potter series, Daniel Radcliffe has been no stranger to action movies, landing key roles in projects like The Lost City and Guns Akimbo. When speaking about the long-hailed fancast to ComicBook.com, Radcliffe admits that he had heard the rumors of him playing the MCU’s next Wolverine, and that it was something he’d thoroughly considered.

“It was not. It was not ever real. It was a very flattering internet rumor. I was very happy about it, but it was never suggested in any kind of way by anybody with any power to make that happen. And, honestly, you would be stupid not to consider something like that, but if they do other Wolverines, being the person who follows Hugh Jackman is not on my bucket list for anything.”

Is Daniel Radcliffe The Next Wolverine?

While landing the role of Wolverine in the MCU isn’t on his bucket list, it seems as though Daniel Radcliffe isn’t ready to completely discount the possibility. Continuing on, he admits that he’s more than happy to not play the role. However, if the script was good enough, he’d certainly consider taking up the claws.

“For any role of his, particularly the role he has made the most iconic of his career, I am happy not to be doing that and let him keeping doing it…But, yes, I am certainly not averse to it.”

“I would never rule anything like that out. But, also, I am not necessarily clamoring to be in it or seeking that. I am lucky that I can judge any job on the quality of the script. So, if a script came in that was exciting, different, weird and cool, then I’d be up for it no matter what it was.”

It’s certainly not impossible for a Wolverine movie script to catch Daniel Radcliffe’s eye. The MCU has been no stranger with delving into weird concepts over the past few years. And, given projects like Swiss Army Man have proven Radcliffe’s love for the unconventional, there’s almost certainly a possible project featuring the Canadian Claw-Man he’d be interested in.

An X-Men reboot is currently in development for the MCU. Stay tuned for the latest updates surrounding the X-Men reboot!
