Gospel star Marvin Sapp is getting ready to say “I do.”
The crooner announced his engagement to La’Boris Cole, PhD, with help from his adult children. Masking the event as a birthday party, once Sapp and Cole walked in, their respective family members were there, and he dropped to one knee to propose.
Sapp and Cole were friends for more than a decade before they decided to enter into a romantic partnership. They kept it private until they felt sure they wanted the same things and that the relationship was getting serious.
Sapp has shared his journey, including being a widower and raising his three children after losing his wife and manager, MaLinda Prince Sapp, to colon cancer in 2010. He’s been open about returning to the dating game.
“Now that they’re all adults…I really just sought God and said ok, listen, just give me life enough that after I see my children are grown and healed, which was most important to me, allow me to have enough life so that I can share life with someone else one day,” he said during an interview with 98.9 Kiss FM of Lagos, Nigeria in 2022.
“I’ve dated, of course. Haven’t found her yet. But absolutely looking — let me say that. What I’ve learned in this dating space, strangely enough, is I’ve learned that 20th-century women are definitely different from 21st-century women,” Sapp added. “I’m just being a student in this season and really trying to learn how to navigate, how to deal with [it]. Prayerfully, hopefully, one day I’ll find her, and we’ll live out the rest of our days and make them the best of our days.”
It seems she has been found. Cole is a therapist and leader in ministry (she is the founder and executive director of the Born 2 Danz Worship Arts Conference and the founder and CEO of Cole Associates & Counselors of Texas, a behavioral health practice). Her mission in all her work is to help individuals find healing, recognize their worth, and proudly pursue their God-given assignment.
Sapp, of course, is a pastor, radio show host, author, and celebrated singer. The Chosen Vessel Church pastor in Fort Worth, Texas, is best known for his hit “Never Would Have Made It,” which would later inspire an eponymous TV One biopic about the artist’s life.
The couple has not announced their wedding date, but they have released a few images from their engagement shoot, photographed by Cenomaxx.
Wishing this couple a joyous journey to the altar and, as desired, the chance to make the rest of their days the best of their days.
