Kicking off with a Wicked parody, Stephen Colbert was clearly giddy in his last ever live episode of The Late Show.

Colbert went live after President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union during his second term, starting nearly 30 minutes late after POTUS broke the record for the longest ever SOTU speech at over an hour and 45 minutes.

“It was incredibly long,” said Colbert, joking that the speech was so long that Senator Jon Ossoff turned into Jon Voight during the evening.

“I didn’t know what to expect. These are always kind of rough with Trump, so just to smooth things out right before the speech, I dropped an edible and strapped in,” he said. “I’m following Michelle Obama’s advice when they go low, we get high.”

He mocked the official theme of the speech being American at 250 being “strong, prosperous and respected”. “Though, if you have to say you’re strong, prosperous and respected, it kind of feels like you’re not. It’s like getting an invite to Sheila’s 50th [birthday]. Single, happy and absolutely loving menopause. Is it hot in here? It’s hot in here. Let’s punch a wall.”

Of course, Colbert zeroed in on President Trump’s low job approval rate, showing that he’s at 36% support. He also mocked Trump for bragging about Trump Account for Kids (that he insisted he did not name), kicking 2.4M people off food stamps and the fact that he wanted to give himself the Congressional Medal of Freedom.

“Throughout his speech tonight, Trump showed remarkable flexibility for a man his age to toot his own horn,” he said. “It was a dark speech filled with divisive lies, and it’s unlikely to win him much support with the voters who have grown disenchanted with the chaos and dysfunction of the second administration.”

Colbert was joined later in the show by former CBS News anchor John Dickerson.
