It seems as though every month, there’s a new fan casting for Batman to go viral on social media. Some of the most famous are Jonathan Bailey, Brendan Sklenar, and Alan Ritchson. However, the most recent man to take the spotlight is Paul Anthony Kelly, who was recently reported to be the top choice to play the Caped Crusader in the DC Universe. As with every viral rumor and fancast, it eventually got back to Paul Anthony Kelly himself in a recent interview. GQ asked the actor if he had any thoughts on fans wanting him to take on the role of Batman in the DC Universe. While he seemed to not know much about the prospect, he admits that he’d be entirely open to taking the part.
“If that’s what they say, then who am I to say no? I mean, that would be a dream come true.”
Who Is The New Actor Playing Batman?
In all honesty, it’s likely not a single rumor about who’s playing Batman in the DC Universe is true. This includes new faces like Paul Anthony Kelly to fancast forum mainstays like Brendan Sklenar. James Gunn has been very vocal about not casting a character until their project is in production, and it seems we’re still quite a few years out from Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
And, if precedent is anything to go by, Batman isn’t a role that’s simply offered to one actor. It’s likely that the casting process for the character will be the “who’s who” of young men in Hollywood, with any actor who thinks they have a remote chance of landing the part trying out for the DC Universe film. After all, it’s a role that has mostly been played by A-List stars: George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, and, most recently, Robert Pattinson.
