The Night Agent is officially coming back for Season 4 at Netflix, and this time the series will shift its production west to Los Angeles. The renewal keeps the action going for Gabriel Basso, whose character, Peter Sutherland, continues to get pulled deeper into dangerous government conspiracies.

The move to L.A. marks another change for the hit series, which has bounced across multiple locations since its debut. Season 1 filmed in Canada, while Seasons 2 and 3 expanded the show’s scope with filming in the United States, Thailand, Türkiye, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Now the production is settling into Los Angeles after two seasons shooting primarily in New York.

Series creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan celebrated the renewal and the journey the production has taken around the globe, saying:

“It’s been a wild ride filming The Night Agent in five countries across three continents to this point and we’re so thrilled that the adventures of Peter Sutherland will continue into Season 4. Our writers, our cast and our crew stand ready to answer the call to bring our incredible fans even more twists, turns and thrills.”

The Season 4 renewal comes just two weeks after Season 3 debuted on February 19. Netflix waited to see how the new season performed before making a decision.

Season 4 will also bring a few changes to the show’s structure and setting. After Season 3 focused on a story tied to the financial world, the next chapter will explore something unique to the Los Angeles region that operates on a much larger scale than what exists in New York. Ryan has already confirmed that it isn’t connected to Hollywood.

Peter won’t be alone on the mission either. The upcoming season will introduce a brand-new partner character and bring back several characters introduced in Season 3. The story will also dig deeper into the purpose and legitimacy of the secretive Night Action program itself.

Season 3 followed Peter after he was tasked with tracking down a young Treasury agent who fled to Istanbul with sensitive government intelligence after killing his boss. The investigation pulled Peter into a sprawling dark money network while he worked alongside a determined journalist played by Genesis Rodriguez, all while dodging assassins tied to the conspiracy.

Season 3 started its run at No. 2 on Netflix’s English TV chart during the week of February 16 with 8.4 million views. That opening was lower than Season 2’s first week, which pulled in 13.9 million viewers, while the original season had an enormous debut run with about 21 million views in its first weekend.

Even with that softer launch, Season 1 still holds a spot on Netflix’s Most Popular English Shows list with 98.2 million views in its first 91 days.

The numbers picked up in the second week of Season 3, climbing to 9.9 million views. That surge also brought earlier seasons back into the Top 10, with Season 1 landing at No. 5 with 2.9 million views and Season 2 at No. 8 with 2.7 million views.

Behind the scenes, the series has also benefited from a production incentive. Sony Pictures Television secured a $31.6 million tax credit in November to relocate the show from New York to Los Angeles. The credit includes a six-month window to begin production, which means filming on Season 4 should start by late May.

Ryan previously confirmed that the creative team had already begun laying the groundwork. Netflix approved a writers room earlier in 2025 and scripts have been taking shape while the stories for the new season are being mapped out.

The move to Los Angeles also puts The Night Agent alongside several other major Netflix productions currently shooting in the city, including The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4, Beef Season 2, Monster Season 4, Running Point Season 2, and the upcoming film Animals directed by Ben Affleck.
