It’s simply too juicy to some reporters to not ask an actor about their involvement in a franchise when during an interview. Which is why, when a rumor came out that Paul Bettany was being eyed to play Voldemort in the new Harry Potter series, it was only a matter of time until the MCU star was asked.
Screen Rant was the most visible outlet to ask Paul Bettany about the rumor during his recent appearance at the Saturn Awards. Sadly, it seems as though there are currently no plans for him to make the jump to the Wizard World from the MCU, with Bettany admitting he hasn’t heard anything about him playing Voldemort in the series.
“I haven’t heard anything about that. I mean, I’m a big fan of the IP, and I’m a big fan of HBO, but nobody has called me up about it. We’ll see.”
The Truth About The Voldemort Casting Rumor
While this news may be disappointing to some fans, it’s important to consider the context of the original rumor. DanielRPK, who first broke the report, simply said that Paul Bettany was being eyed for the role of Voldemort. Given it’s likely the villain won’t be cast for quite some time, it makes sense that the series hasn’t extended its formal invitation yet.
It’s also possible, depending on how expensive the series ends up being relative to its viewership, that the studio may go with someone similar to Paul Bettany, but without the credentials of the MCU bumping up his pay rate. So while this rumor currently is “deconfirmed,” fans should still keep an eye on the actor as casting for the Harry Potter series heats up once more.
