#Socialites, get a load of this: It’s one thing to find out your partner’s been sneakin’ around but finding out they might’ve put your health at risk? That’s another level of betrayal entirely.
According to WALA, Pensacola Police Officer Pierce Cotton, 32, found himself on the wrong side of the law Friday after being arrested and charged for allegedly having sex with his partner without disclosing his HIV-positive status.
According to authorities, Cotton’s facing a third-degree felony under Florida Statute 384.24(2)—a law that specifically makes it illegal for someone with HIV to knowingly engage in sexual intercourse without first informing their partner.
The law spells it out clearly: “It is unlawful for any person who has human immunodeficiency virus infection, when such person knows he or she is infected with this disease and when such person has been informed that he or she may communicate this disease to another person through sexual intercourse, to have sexual intercourse with any other person, unless such other person has been informed of the presence of the sexually transmissible disease and has consented to the sexual intercourse.”
As of now, the Pensacola Police Department confirmed that Cotton is currently on administrative leave, and they’ve launched an internal affairs investigation to dig deeper into the situation.
According to jail records, he didn’t spend too long behind bars. He has since been released on a $10,000 bond Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile, a public statement has not been made by Cotton or his legal rep to deny or clarify these allegations.
