Former Bad Boy Records rapper Shyne is doubling down on dating singer and actress Brandy after she publicly denied their love affair. However, Shyne alleges this isn’t the first time she’s ever lied to the public.

As previously shared, Shyne recently appeared on the ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast, hosted by rappers-turned-podcasters Cam’ron and Mase (or MA$E).
During the sit-down, former Bad Boy Records rappers Shyne and MASE claimed they both dated Brandy at the same time. Mase claimed he was “special” and Shyne wanted to be “special” to Brandy too. Shyne continued to share his version of his alleged affair with Brandy.
“I definitely did want to be special. But, I had no idea. What happened was, we had a mutual friend who was a snitch. I think he know who it is and I’m not gonna expose him… So, I was so excited because [Brandy] is my dream person. I was a poor kid [from] Brooklyn, watching MTV, watching ‘Moesha,’ watching her on BET. And as a dreamer, I’m like, ‘Man, if I ever—if she was to know Shyne? I got that.’ So, when I came up, she was in the crosshairs, I was sniping. But, I had no idea though ’cause, he was special, so he was running that great work so discrettly, so quietly, I had no idea. He was an ultra sniper. But, I was so excited, so I kept telling one of our mutual friends. And he was snitching me out. So, Brandy was like, ‘Yo, who you told you here? How so-and-so know that you here with me right now?’ And I’m like, ‘Awe, man.’ That’s my story.”

The bombshell claims went viral and immediately caught the attention of Brandy’s brother, singer and actor Ray J. He went nuclear and completely crashed out on all three rappers, which brought on a social media back-and-forth with trolling. Eventually, Brandy broke her silence with an official statement, denying she ever dated Shyne.
Attempting to bring the drama to an end, Brandy broke her silence on Instagram as she promoted her memoir, ‘Phases.’ She wrote:
“In the late 90’s, I had a platonic friendship with rapper Shyne. In an unfortunate turn of events, that friendship is now being mischaracterized as ‘we dated! Unequivocally, we did not! I’m not sure why an untrue narrative about a scope of what was a friendship more than 20-years ago is being reshaped during his current media interviews. People telling their version of my story is why I am releasing my upcoming memoir, ‘PHASES.’ It’s time to tell my truth and debunk many of the misnomers that people think they know about my life.
Additionally, I rarely release statements and typically ignore stories about me in the headlines even when they’re false. But when I do decide to standup for myself, I handle things on my own. While I love my brother Ray J, I don’t condone or support the messages he’s shared on social media and have not asked him to defend me in any form. #PHASES is available March 31, 2026.”

Shyne Doubles Down On Claim He Dated Brandy After She Denies Love Affair
Days later, TMZ caught up with Shyne, and she said he “doesn’t know what is wrong with” Brandy. He further alleged she’s lying to protect her image — something he said she did before when she lied to Oprah Winfrey about being married. Shyne referenced reports from years ago, where Brandy admitted she was never legally married to her daughter’s father upon announcing her pregnancy.
A July 2014 article on Oprah.com reports that after the “Full Moon” singer came on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show‘ in 2002 — revealing she was six months pregnant and married to her child’s father — she doubled back to apologize for lying. In her 2014 interview with Winfrey, Brandy said she felt like she had to lie to the TV host and the public to protect her image. She feared that being pregnant out of wedlock would ruin her super successful career. Brandy said, “It was not something that people praised. … It was a sin. I felt like I could not be honest about that.”
Furthermore, Shyne told TMZ:
“I don’t know what is wrong with her. I spoke from a place of admiration and a place of reminiscing on my experience with her — which I didn’t care to highlight the negatives, it was only positive.
And the conclusion of our experience helped me to make a classic album. But I will say that I never lied to Oprah. She lied to Oprah about being married and had to go on Oprah and apologize because she said she did that to protect her image… I can’t get in her mind. I’m just saying that she has lied to the public before to protect her image and maybe the fact that she was seeing both Mase and I at the same time, she feels it’s not good for her image.
She’s lying. Everything that I said is 100% true. In fact, in my Hulu documentary, I never mentioned her name. This is where this started. The late, great Clark Kent mentioned her name and he said, ‘Everybody knows that.’ That’s a matter of historical fact.
And if you look at the interview, Mase and I—Mase has different opinions. He’s very hard-lined. He’s very extreme. I’m a bit more compassionate, a bit middle ground. So, Mase and I weren’t agreeing on everything. But we agreed on [both dating her]. So, if I was capping, he would have said, ‘Nah, Shyne. I don’t remember it like that.’ He and I remember it the same way. Clark Kent remembers it the same way. So, but you know what? Happy Women’s Month.”
