Jessi Draper explained her prenuptial agreement with estranged husband Jordan Ngatikaura to listeners of Alex Cooper‘s podcast on Wednesday.
Following their split last week, the 33-year-old Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star revealed if she’d have to split her net worth with Jordan while also discussing the emotional abuse in their marriage, admitting to feeling trapped, explaining why she kissed Marciano Brunette, 33, and sharing how Jordan reacted to her telling him she wanted a divorce.
“I don’t have to give him anything from my businesses, but I’ll have to pay alimony and child support most likely. And then I might have to do some sort of payout. [But] we haven’t gotten there yet,” Jessi revealed on the March 25 episode of Call Her Daddy. “He can’t take my business or, you know, anything like that. So I’m happy about that.”
After noting that Jordan “never did anything to contribute” to her business, Jessi addressed potential resentment over the money she may have to pay him.
“All the hard work that I’ve done, I’ve built my business up from the ground, me and my family, and you just get to like, get a chunk of that … [But] because we have kids, I’m okay with it because I want them to have a dad who has some, some stability,” she reasoned, adding, “But yeah, it sucks.”
Looking back on the emotional abuse she endured throughout her marriage, Jessi admitted to letting it slide at first.
“My first marriage was pretty emotionally abusive, like worse than this one. And I [got] married so quickly that I didn’t have time to heal from that. So I think I attracted the same type of person without, like, realizing,” she explained. “I think in my head I was justifying it because I’m like, ‘No, Jordan saved me from my other marriage … so there’s no way he’s doing this to me.’”
Ultimately, however, Jessi started to notice the “same patterns” and came clean to an energy healer, who told her, “Jessi, this is emotional abuse.”
“It was like a weight had fallen off where I was like, and it was almost like something clicked, and I was like seeing it clearly for the first time,” she shared. “I felt so trapped in that marriage, you know, like I couldn’t do anything right. I was so beaten down emotionally, and I was just so unhappy, deeply unhappy, and what I was in, but I felt trapped, like not only with, like, my money and my business … [but] he made me feel like I couldn’t leave.”
Jessi also had to consider the impact divorce would have on her kids, son Jagger, 5, and daughter Jovi, 3.
“I was just really, really upset,” she noted.
Then, she met Vanderpump Villa‘s Marciano, whom she ended up kissing as a way out of her marriage.
“It was the first person who was, like, nice to me and told me I was cool and pretty and fun, and like, that I was worth something. And I just remember being like, ‘Oh, like this is how a man should talk to you,’” she recalled. “Not that it’s okay what I did by any means, but I do feel like I was like, I remember thinking like, ‘If I do this tonight,’ just kissing him by the way, ‘It will give me a reason to be done. Like, it’ll give Jordan a reason to leave me. Like I could be free.’”
Before Jordan’s recent divorce filing, Jessi said she told him several times that she wanted to break up. However, it was one particular day that she woke up and knew she needed to make a change.
“Something flipped, and I was like, ‘I’m done.’ And I could not go back after that. It was the weirdest thing,” she revealed.
The next day, Jessi informed Jordan that their marriage was over after he brought up that their children’s therapist wanted to start seeing them together.
“I was like, ‘I just dunno if our schedules are gonna work, like it may work if you take them and I take them.’ And he was like, ‘Why? The kids are the most important thing, like, why?’ And I was like, ‘I want to get divorced.’ I just said it,” she explained.
According to Jessi, Jordan was calm at first, but then got mad.
“Then he kind of gaslit me and was like, ‘You’re not healed enough. That’s why, like, you can’t love yourself yet, so you need to figure that out first, and then you’ll realize this isn’t what you want,’” she recalled, adding that he later accused her of cheating.
“It was all over the place, and I just had to be like, ‘Jordan, like I need to know, I’ve thought about this every single day for the last four years, and this is, I’m choosing myself.’ And you know, we fought a little bit, but he finally understood,” she continued.
Since that day, Jessi has been staying in a hotel, aside from one night in which she Ubered home after a night of drinking with friends and slept with Jordan one last time.
“I ended up having sex with him … [and] I’m so glad I did because after that moment I was like, ‘Nope. Never again,’” she concluded.
