Let the tributes begin.
It was only days ago that Bob Iger officially stepped down as Chairman and CEO of Disney, but he’s already being honored by the company to which he gave six decades of his life.
Iger was first on the list announcing this year’s crop of Disney Legends. Dubbed the company’s highest honor, the designation goes to “people whose creativity has shaped Disney into what it is today.” Iger certainly qualifies.
Others on this year’s list: Susan Egan, Dwayne Johnson, Anne Hathaway, and Alan Tudyk, for bringing “unforgettable characters to life on-screen and on-stage. The Jonas Brothers were included for their contribution to Disney music, Lin‑Manuel Miranda for “groundbreaking songwriting for modern Disney favorites” and Eric Goldberg for his “artistry and animation.”
Also named were Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer; Chris Berman for his “pioneering voice and presence” on ESPN; and Kim Irvine for her “decades of leadership at Walt Disney Imagineering.”
The induction ceremony will take place as part of Disney’s D23 fan event this summer. Ryan Seacrest will host. The event will take place on Sunday, August 16, at 1:30 p.m. PT at the Honda Center and be available to stream on Disney+.
