Monolith Board Games has officially returned to crowdfunding with their Batman: Gotham City Chronicles Season 4, and this time it’s bringing on Absolute Batman, as created by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta. The asymmetric miniatures game is funding for an entire expansion built around the Absolute Batman series in miniature form, stating;

Batman: Gotham City Chronicles Brings Absolute Batman To The Fray
Since its launch in 2019, Batman: Gotham City Chronicles has recreated Gotham’s sprawling cast of heroes and villains, pitting two to four players against one another in asymmetric clashes where heroes work together (or solo) to complete objectives against a more powerful villain player. Previous seasons have delivered hundreds of miniatures, missions, and an expanding roster that let players reenact everything from street-level brawls to city-wide catastrophes.

Monolith Board Games, a French games publisher founded in 2014, specializes in miniature-based tabletop games and got a strong start with their 2015 Kickstarter campaign for Conan. As well as Batman: Gotham City Chronicles, they have also launched their Mythic Battles series with Pantheon, Ragnarök, and more, as well as Claustrophobia 1643, Tower Up, OrcQuest, Reichbusters, and Berserk, based on the very popular manga.

Absolute Batman is the lead title of DC Comics’ Absolute Universe line, showrun by Scott Snyder, the existence of which was first broken by Bleeding Cool in 2023, then named in 2024, and for which Absolute Batman was highlighted as the lead book. Since then, it has become the best-selling comic book in the direct market of comic shops, with sales currently approaching 400,000 an issue. The Absolute Universe is a reality created by the classic DC villain Darkseid, a much harsher environment for our heroes to operate in, without many of the advantages they may have in the DC Universe. This Absolute Batman Expansion promises new miniatures, maps, and scenarios set in Absolute Universe continuity. Among the confirmed miniatures are the Absolute Batman and Absolute Black Mask, and it looks like the Absolute Bane will be in the mix as well. Hopefully, we’ll get the Absolute Joker in his “evolved” form as well. The campaign has yet to launch or provide details on donations, rewards, or funding options, but Monolith promises publication by the end of the year. They have a number of successful crowdfunding launches under their belt, but as ever, it’s caveat emptor…
