A Tennessee nurse has been found guilty after prosecutors said she assaulted a coworker by smearing a used adult diaper on her face.
According to WREG, 40-year-old Sharandal Mitchell was convicted of assault–offensive contact in connection with a March 30, 2024 incident. District Attorney General Frederick Agee stated that Mitchell worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at a nursing home in Medina.
The altercation reportedly began after a coworker reported Mitchell for allegedly refusing to treat a patient suffering from a prolonged nosebleed and failing to administer prescribed medications to residents under her care.
Management Ordered Her to Leave the Facility
After the complaint, nursing home management instructed Mitchell to return her medical cart keys and leave the facility for failing to perform her duties. Prosecutors said she refused.
Authorities were eventually called to the nursing home. However, Mitchell allegedly remained inside the building for nearly two hours after police were contacted. Officials said she blamed the coworker who reported her for the disciplinary action.
Physical Assault Led to Arrest
According to prosecutors, Mitchell entered her coworker’s patient room, put on gloves, and grabbed a used adult diaper that contained urine and feces. She then allegedly grabbed the coworker by the hair and smeared the diaper across her face.
When the victim pushed her away, Mitchell was taken into custody. The court ultimately found her guilty of assault–offensive contact. Sentencing details have not yet been publicly outlined.
