Grey’s Anatomy is on another pause, but when does the show return from hiatus?
The hit medical drama is not expected back on ABC until April 30, which will mark the penultimate episode before season 22 comes to a close. Grey’s Anatomy previously wrapped up with Miranda (Chandra Wilson) trying to hide the fact that Kwan (Harry Shum Jr.) secretly gave a patient an experimental treatment that was denied by the FDA.
Miranda’s husband, Ben (Jason Winston George), caught on, and then Richard (James Pickens Jr.) realized what happened. He called Miranda into his office — not knowing Kwan was at fault — to warn her of an official investigation into the incident.
Off screen, viewers learned that the show would be going through changes when news broke that Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver would be leaving the show at the end of the season. Their individual arcs are expected to conclude during the season finale, which airs May 7.
Before the show returned, Camilla Luddington teased what fans can expect.
“There are so many cliffhangers, actually, in the finale,” Luddington, 42, exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month. “That’s what we do.”
Luddington, who plays Jo, teased that the conclusion has “a lot” going on.
“It’s a really big finale. We have someone from Station 19 showing up. Danielle is back with us, which is really fun. It’s a lot of drama,” she noted. “For Jo in particular, she ends up at a crossroads in her career. She has some big career decisions to make in the finale.”
While addressing Grey’s Anatomy’s tendency to shake up the cast, Luddington hinted that Jo should be safe after just giving birth on screen.
“I do play that game of like, ‘Listen, she almost died.’ I have those conversations too. I talked to our showrunner and I’ll ask her questions about the season. Sadly, they don’t give enough away for us,” she continued. “We are left wondering. But you know, I get to pitch stories too, which is really fun with her. Listen, I don’t think that you can ever consider yourself safe when you work at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.”
Luddington expressed gratitude for her time on the show so far.
“That is what our show does so well is it shows how messy motherhood can be,” she gushed. “She has four kids and we do a good job of showing that at times she’s just not OK. I know there’s a lot of Team Jo fans out there and I really appreciate that.”
Grey’s Anatomy returns to ABC Thursday, April 30, at 10 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Hulu.
