Greenwich Entertainment has dropped the official trailer for Omaha, and if you’re in the mood for a raw, emotionally charged road trip drama, this one looks like it’s going to hit hard.
The indie film premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and quickly became one of the standouts of the lineup. Now it’s gearing up for a theatrical release, and the first footage hints at something deeply personal and quietly crushing.
Set in 2008, the story follows a young girl and her little brother who are woken up early one morning by their father and ushered into the car. No big explanation. Just a sudden departure. What starts as a spontaneous trip across the American West slowly turns into something much heavier as the girl begins to piece together the truth about where they’re headed and why.
The film stars John Magaro as the father, delivering what looks to be one of his most powerful performances to date. He’s joined by Molly Belle Wright and Wyatt Solis as his children, and from what the trailer shows, the emotional weight of the film rests squarely on the shoulders of these three actors.
Their is natural, and the tension simmering beneath their conversations gives the story a constant undercurrent of unease.
The official synopsis reads: “A struggling young father (John Magaro) embarks on a road trip across the American West with his two children (Molly Belle Wright and Wyatt Solis). What begins as a seemingly spontaneous family journey gradually reveals uneasy clues about where they are going and why.”
Part of what makes Omaha so interesting is the mystery surrounding the destination. The trailer wisely keeps its cards close to the chest, offering glimpses of wide-open highways, quiet motels, and intimate car conversations that hint at something heartbreaking waiting at the end of the road. I won’t dig into the specifics.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of indie filmmaker Cole Webley, who previously directed a number of short films. The screenplay comes from Robert Machoian, and the production shot on location in Utah, and those landscapes add a stark, grounded texture to the journey unfolding on screen.
When Omaha premiered at Sundance last year, it earned strong reactions from critics and audiences alike, many calling it one of the most memorable films of the festival. You can read my review for it here.
Greenwich Entertainment will release Omaha in select U.S. theaters starting April 24th, 2026, before expanding nationwide in May.
