Busta Rhymes has secured a role in the upcoming Naked Gun reboot, rounding out an all-star cast that includes Liza Koshy, WWE superstar Cody Rhodes, and veteran actress CCH Pounder.
Deadline has confirmed that the ex-Leader of the New School signed on to the film as of Thursday (May 23) in an as-yet-undisclosed role.
Other stars confirmed to be a part of the reboot include Liam Neeson (who will be playing Det. Frank Drebin), Pamela Anderson, Paul Michael Hauser, and Kevin Durand.
Bussa Buss’s role in the Naked Gun reboot will mark the first time in nearly 10 years that he’ll be starring in a film. His last film role was 2016’s King of the Dancehall opposite Nick Cannon. He also famously had voiceover role in the Rugrats movie, and in The Boondocks (where he voiced Flonominal).
Busta Rhymes has always had an affection for different forms of creative expression. Back in 2011, he co-signed Nicki Minaj’s desire to move into films.
Nicki Minaj had already accomplished so much in such a short period of time that the legendary rapper thought acting was the next logical step for the woman that would go on to become a superstar.
“I don’t think there’s anything missing from what she’s doing,” he said in an interview at the time. “She’s a new artist. She’s doing more than what new artists do as far as being everywhere and having the success and acknowledgment that she’s had.”
“I’m just saying the only thing left for her to do, from what I can see, and not only the thing left for her to do but the next thing that I would like to see her do is films.”
More recently, Busta Rhymes admitted that he initially set out to become a DJ and became a rapper “by accident.”
“I never really got good at it to be the DJ,” he said on The Diary of a CEO podcast. “I was able to do it, but I was never nice enough to become the superstar DJ. And at that time, the DJ was super important. Because all of the groups had the DJ name. The DJ was always the big shot.”
He added: “I’m not really the technology dude, so all of this equipment shit, it was just a little complicated for me,” he concluded.
