EXCLUSIVE: Blu Del Barrio joins the cast of Carol Brandt‘s upcoming feature, Pink Moon, in a lead role. Meredith Johnston penned the script, and also stars along actor Zeke Goodman.
The story follows Mira (Johnston) and K (Del Barrio), a queer couple with their relationship on the rocks, living out of their van in the Chicago area. As a last ditch effort to escape their desolate life, they plan a bank heist in the small town of Worden, Kansas. However, executing a bank heist amidst a crumbling relationship yields tougher than they thought. As Mira and K adjust to small town living, they realize they must confront the failings of their relationship or lose everything they’ve got left.
“Only a quarter of the way into reading this script I was heartbroken at the possibility of not getting to play K. It is one of those projects you cling onto immediately,” said Del Barrio. “This story is beautiful and so necessary. K is very special to me and I’m so honored to step into this role.”
“From the moment my co-director Meredith and I hung up after our callback with Blu, we just looked at each other and went “wow.” It was what a director truly hopes for in an actor: they make you completely forget you wrote your own script. Blu’s performances are so raw and fresh you often forget where you are as you watch. There’s no question they can carry the story of Pink Moon,” Brandt said.
The project is being produced by Suzanne Jurva and Lauren Elizabeth Harris of Pathway Pictures. Jurva is best known for her work on Oscar Nominated films, such as Saving Private Ryan Gladiator, Amistad, and many others. Harris founded Pathway Pictures, which is in development on five feature films and two series. Pink Moon is in its final stage of financing, and planning to begin production in May of 2025.
