In Star Trek: The Animated Celebration Presents the Scheimer Barrier, Captain James T. Kirk must face the fact that he’s actually a character in a 1970s Saturday morning cartoon… or perhaps the protagonist of a comic! With a story by Casper Kelly (Too Many Cooks), art & letters by Jonathan Case (Little Monarchs), design & production by Neil Uyetake and edits by Jamie S. Rich & Vanessa Real, the first chapter of the comic is available to read now on StarTrek.com.

Star Trek: The Animated Series

The first chapter in Star Trek: The Animated Celebration Presents the Scheimer Barrier was released today, September 8th, to celebrate Star Trek Day 2023. This year, the date marks the 50th anniversary of the original airdate of the first episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series, “Beyond the Farthest Star.”

In addition to releasing the first chapter of Star Trek: The Animated Celebration Presents the Scheimer Barrier, StarTrek.com is also marking the occasion with the first of five Star Trek: very Short Treks entries, “Skin a Cat.” Like the comic, these shorts are from the mind of Kelly. The Beat got the chance to chat with Kelly at San Deigo Comic Con 2023:

“Skin a Cat” features Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds alum Ethan Peck as Spock and Star Trek: Prodigy alums Bonnie Gordon and Eric Bauza. Also appearing are Franchise newcomers Cristina Milizia and Pete Holmes. You can watch “Skin a Cat” now, with the next four shorts to be released each Wednesday through October 4th, 2023.

Star Trek: The Animated Celebration Presents the Scheimer Barrier

After additional chapters of Star Trek: The Animated Celebration Presents the Scheimer Barrier make their debut on StarTrek.com throughout the month of September, IDW Comics will have a physical edition available at New York Comic Con 2023 in October.

Will you be checking out Star Trek: The Animated Celebration Presents the Scheimer Barrier? Have you watched “Skin a Cat”?
