Bun B Recalls The Day He & His Wife Were Robbed
Demonte Jackson was being sentenced for invading the couple’s residence. He plead guilty to aggravated robbery. It took a long five years for the court proceedings to reach the point of sentencing. Bun B — born Bernard Freeman — took the witness stand on June 5 for twenty minutes. He explained how the trauma of that day “still affects [their] lives.”
He explained what occurred when Jackson forced his way into their home. The Houston native stated his wife, Queenie, opened the door for the perpetrator, believing he was an Amazon delivery man. After Bun’s wife answered the door, Jackson put a gun to her head and strongarmed his way into the house.
The philanthropist recalled hearing his wife say, “Just take the car! Just take the car!” He stated that he had never heard fear emanating from Queenie’s voice the way he did that day. The pair have been married for over 20 years.
Jackson attempted to flee in Queenie’s car, but Bun entered the garage and fired shots at the car, wounding him. The perp fired shots back before exiting the vehicle. The men then began to tussle on the ground.
Demonte managed to break free, but Bun caught up with him and forced the thief to remove his mask and reveal his tattoos. The ‘Take It Off’ rapper stated that he wanted to see if he knew the convict or if he was associated with someone he knew. Bun B eventually let him go, but Jackson was later found at a hospital seeking treatment for the gunshot.
Queenie’s Mental Health Struggles
The morning after the incident, his wife was triggered upon entering the kitchen. He said she froze and began to “shake.” Queenie left the house and only returned to retrieve essential items, but she had to be blindfolded so she wouldn’t see the stairs where Jackson entered because it triggered her. Bun stated his life partner was “absolutely broken.”
He said his wife became “closed off” and “can’t communicate.” With heartbreak in his voice, Bun said, “She didn’t ask for this.” Queenie suffered from anxiety before the incident and had just completed therapy just before Jackson robbed the couple. The horrifying experience intensified her anxiety.
