EXCLUSIVE: When the Night Comes Falling, written by Howard Blum, tells the inside story of the mysterious murders of the four University of Idaho students. It is now being developed as a scripted series.

Village Roadshow Television is working up the project after acquiring the rights to Blum’s book, which is set to be published by HarperCollins on June 25. The producer also optioned the rights to Blum’s seven-part AirMail Weekly series that led to the creation of the book.

Bryan Christopher Kohberger has been charged with four counts of murder after Kaylee Concalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were found stabbed to death in their off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho in 2022. No trial date has been set.

Blum has been covering the case from the start and the story will see him go behind the scenes of the police manhunt that uncovered not only the suspected killer, but also larger questions connected to the tragedy.

Bri Hennessey will oversee for Village Roadshow Television. Blum, Sherryl Clark of Busted Shark Productions, and Bob Bookman of Smarty Pants Ventures will executive produce. There is no writer yet attached.

Blum is the author of books including Dark Invasion, American Lightning and The Gold Exodus. He is a former contributing editor to Vanity Fair.

It is the latest scripted series in the works at Village Roadshow Television, which is run by former Sony TV boss Steve Mosko. It is also developing a golf drama about John Daly with Kevin James on board to play the controversial golfer.
