In House of the Dragon Season 2, we are introduced to a new character named Alyn in Driftmark. Fans of the books will understand the importance of this side character, though this TV portrayal differs slightly. Revealed without his last name in the first episode of the Max series, Alyn is portrayed by British actor Abubakar Salim, the voice actor for Bayek in the Assassin’s Creed video game franchise. Here’s what we know so far about the mysterious Alyn and how he might factor into the later episodes of the second season.

Who is Alyn in House of the Dragon Season 2?

Alyn is a soldier and sailor for the Velaryon fleet in House of the Dragon Season 2. He participated in the War for the Stepstones back in Season 1 and is responsible for saving Lord Corlys Velaryon from the watery depths.

Furthermore, according to an official character description for Season 2, Alyn’s full title is “Alyn of Hull” in regards to the city of Hull, which goes unnamed in the episode. In the books, though, the town is known for its shipyards and is one place, alongside Spicetown, where Corlys launched his ships to form the naval blockade to prevent trade from going into King’s Landing.

From what can be understood in the conversation between him and Lord Corlys, he knows how to repair ships and has contacts with other shipwrights. The Sea Snake also trusts Alyn enough for him to have a sword delivered, a gift that would have been given to Prince Lucerys Velaryon. Corlys also says that he owes Alyn a great debt.

It’s unclear how closely this House of the Dragon interpretation of Alyn will be to the books, where he becomes a central figure in the civil war. He, along with his older brother Addam, is a bastard son between Marilda of Hull and, if the rumor she spread is to believed, Laenor Velaryon. (It might actually be Corlys instead, which would explain some of the awkward tension between him and Alyn.) We haven’t seen Addam yet so we don’t know if he will appear in the show.

Either way, the book version of Alyn rises to prominence after successfully taming a dragon and becoming a dragonrider, leading him to be legitimized by Rhaenyra and consequently being involved in many of the coming wars. Years later, he even replaces Corlys as Lord of the Tides after his death. That said, he might not have as dramatic of a rise in station in the TV show. But given that a great debt is owed to him, it looks like Alyn will be making a name for himself soon enough in Season 2 and beyond.
