Deadpool & Wolverine is going to mark a big change in the MCU and with Deadpool entering the universe, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens with the future of the Marvel movies after his arrival and his multiverse-hoping adventure.
But, even Kevin Feige has teased the film will have ramifications on the MCU, the marketing for the movie is based largely on characters and personality, rather than plot or “the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
This certainly helps with Marvel wanting to keep the big overall story under wraps. When talking about the story, director Shawn Levy compared the movie to some of the earlier Marvel movies. He explains that the stakes of this film movie are rooted in character.
Levy explained: “The character stakes are more important than the global MCU stakes.”
This is what makes for the best Marvel movies, when the story and characters come before how things are going to set up the future of the franchise. This is one of the reasons why the Guardians of the Galaxy films are so good!
For example, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the story of Rocket Raccoon was more important than anything else that was going on in the bigger universe or with the multiverse. It made for a great and intimate story with tons of emotion.
A lot of the earlier Marvel movies put a main focus on character, so it’s nice to learn that this is the direction that Deadpool & Wolverine is taking.
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool finds himself facing the loss of his loved ones as his homeworld faces an existential threat. So, he finds himself teaming up with Wolverine to help save it. It’s a simple premise, but it sure is going to be a wild ride and I can’t wait to see how the story plays out.
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26th!
