Raising Arizona still holds up

It seems like a lot of moviegoers are excited about director Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus. It looks like he’s made a great sci-fi horror film that is going to feature some truly terrifying scenes.

One of the film’s stars, Isabela Merced, who plays one of the movie’s young space scavengers, shared her thoughts on the horror of the film and she believes that it will scar some kids for life.

Merced said: “I really do believe that there are specific sequences in this film that will scar some kids that sneak into the movie for life.”

Her co-star David Jonsson added with a laugh: “You can definitely say goodbye to a 12A. The halfway house with Fede [Alvarez, director] is just not his style. If you’re going to try and scare people, then you scare them.”

The film’s lead Cailee Spaeny goes on to say: “He doesn’t know how to not put that spin on it. That is just his instinct. He’s waiting to do something strange and twisted.

“And you know he’s got it when you’re right on the edge of going, ‘Should we do this?’ That’s when you know, ‘OK, Fede is in his sweet spot.'”

The movie is set between 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens and the story sees Spaeny, Jonsson, and Merced’s characters on a mission to escape their mining colony home when a scavenging ship arrives and offers a way out.

Alien: Romulus follows a “group of young people on a distant world who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”

Alvarez is directing from his script written by Rodo Sayagues. Ridley Scott is also a producer on the movie along with Michael Pruss (Boston Strangler) for Scott Free, with Brent O’Connor (Bullet Train), Elizabeth Cantillon (Persuasion) and Tom Moran (The Donut King) serving as executive producers.

Alien: Romulus is set to hit theaters on August 16th.
