Lupita Nyong’o Shades J.D. Vance With ‘#ChildlessCatLady’ Post

Lupita Nyong’o celebrated her cat Yoyo’s third birthday with a festive Instagram post, sharing photos of the orange tabby.

The famous actress, who overcame her fear of cats while filming “A Quiet Place: Day One,” also honored Yoyo on National Kitten Day.

In her recent post, Lupita Nyong’o didn’t miss a chance to throw shade at J.D. Vance, Donald Trump’s 2024 running mate, who once called women in the Democratic Party “a bunch of childless cat ladies.”

In a recent Instagram post, Nyong’o marked her cat Yoyo’s third birthday by sharing photos featuring the orange tabby posing in front of a gold “Happy Birthday” banner.

The 41-year-old “Black Panther” actress dressed Yoyo in a blue birthday hat and surrounded him with crinkle toys.

She captioned it: “Go Yoyo! It’s yo birthday! Please join me in wishing him a very happy 3rd birthday!”

In the photo carousel, Nyong’o looked stunning in a yellow dress and floral crown, accessorized with gold earrings.

She also took the opportunity to subtly call out Trump’s running mate with the hashtag “#ChildlessCatLady,” referencing his resurfaced remark from a 2021 interview.

In the interview with Tucker Carlson, Vance had said the Democratic Party was made up of “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”

Nyong’o isn’t the only celebrity who has reacted to Vance’s comments. Actress Jennifer Aniston took to her Instagram story to blast the Ohio senator while expressing shock that he made such remarks.

“I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States,” Aniston wrote, per Variety. “All I can say is… Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children one day.”

The “Friends” actress then pointed out Vance’s vote against the Right to IVF Act, which aims to safeguard access to IVF services nationwide. She expressed her hope that the senator’s stance would not one day prevent his child from having children if she ever faces fertility issues.

Anniston added, “I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too.”

Nyong’o adopted her cat, Yoyo, from Best Friends Adoption Center last year, but before then, she was afraid of cats.

However, her feelings about felines changed when she had to prepare for her role in the horror/sci-fi film “A Quiet Place: Day One,” where she shared the screen with a cat named Frodo.

In an interview with Glamour, Nyong’o shared that writer and producer John Krasinski reached out to her to “bring fresh energy” to the project, and while she was captivated by his idea, she had reservations when she discovered her character owned a cat.

“I asked the director, Michael Sarnoski, if we could change the animal,” she recalled. “I even suggested an armadillo, but he was not having it.”

To overcome her fear, the Oscar winner underwent a unique form of “cat therapy.”

“They hired someone to bring cats to my home, and on the first day, they just released the cats in my presence,” she told CBS News. “I stood on the other side of the room, asking questions about why they were doing what they were doing.”

Lupita told People Magazine that she had always been afraid of cats because she had spent little time around them.

“This film forced me to learn about cats, and I had to look like I owned a cat, and look like I cared, and look like I loved the cat. In the process of playing that pretend, I actually fell in love with the cats, Nico and Schnitzel. They’re so sweet and cute,” she shared.

Nyong’o added: “There’s something that melts your heart when they hold onto you. It was a bond that I had with them.”

The actress shared that after returning to her “real life” during a difficult period, she felt a persistent inner voice telling her, “Get a cat,” and so she did.

“I have not regretted it,” Nyong’o confessed. “‘I’m way less lonely with my cat, and he pried my heart open.”

She also expressed her admiration for cats, particularly their independence: “They take care of themselves… And they’re also very opinionated, and they just have their personality, and you have to take them or leave them. I love that about them. They remind me of me.”
