Walking a tightrope between hope and heart-shredding devastation, the new single illustrates the dark side of its title, though at times weaving threads of emotional clarity.
“In life people often choose what’s familiar to them over what’s actually good for them,” says Virtual Riot. “There is safety in the familiarity of something, even if it might be bad for you, and this was the emotional headspace for writing the track.”
One True God’s haunting vocals enter the fray and the uneasiness builds with distant, eerie sound effects. A raging, writhing bassline then engulfs the drop, its sinister midtempo beat a Rezz signature. Melodic elements play a continuous tug-of-war, flawlessly painting a picture of the inner battle that takes place when you fight the urge to go back to someone or something you know is bad for you.
