This is one of my all-time favorite comedies and it would be a cool experience to watch it on the big screen again.
The sci-fi comedy follows the cast of a once-popular television series, also called Galaxy Quest, whose careers have faded into obscurity. The actors, led by the arrogant but charming Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen), who played the show’s captain, attend fan conventions to make a living.
Unbeknownst to them, an alien race called the Thermians have mistaken their show for real historical documents. The Thermians enlist the cast to help save their race from the evil warlord Sarris, believing the actors to be the intergalactic heroes they portrayed on television.
As the actors find themselves aboard a real starship modeled after their fictional one, they must quickly adapt to the realities of space combat, alien diplomacy, and life-or-death stakes.
At first overwhelmed and out of their depth, they eventually rise to the occasion, using their acting experience and teamwork to defeat Sarris and protect the Thermians.
The cast of the film also includes Sigourney Weaver as Gwen DeMarco / Lieutenant Tawny Madison; Alan Rickman as Alexander Dane / Dr. Lazarus; Tony Shalhoub as Fred Kwan / Tech Sergeant Chen; Sam Rockwell as Guy Fleegman; Daryl Mitchell as Tommy Webber / Lt. Laredo; and Enrico Colantoni as Mathesar.
