Marcee Gray, the mother of the suspected Apalachee High School shooter Colt Gray, is facing charges for a domestic violence incident. Fox 5 Atlanta says Marcee is under investigation for allegedly taping her elderly mother to a chair for nearly 24 hours.

Details On The Indictment Of Georgia School Shooter’s Mother

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution notes a grand jury has charged Marcee, 43, with exploiting a disabled person, false imprisonment, and theft.

The (AJC) found that it took a day to locate 74-year-old Deborah Polhamus in her Ben Hill County home.

Fox 5 Atlanta reports that Marcee Gray attacked her mother after she refused to go with her to Barrow County to confront her ex-husband, Colin Gray, on November 3, 2023.

“Marcee became upset and told Deborah that she was making her go with her because she was going to kill her ex. Deborah stated she refused to go, and Marcee threw her up against the wall, causing a cut on her left wrist. Marcee stated that since Deborah wasn’t going she was going to tie her to a chair and take her phone so she wouldn’t call anyone,” the AJC said the incident reported stated.

The next day, November 4, 2023, court records reveal that Marcee damaged her ex-husband’s work truck in a separate case. On November 6, 2023, Barrow County arrested Marcee for allegedly hiding her Nissan Rogue’s tags and possessing substances.

In December, she was charged with concealing her license plate, damaging property, and family violence, per USA Today. She pleaded guilty, and a local judge sentenced her to five years in jail, starting with 46 days in confinement.

After sentencing, authorities took Marcee back to Ben Hill County to face charges related to her mother’s treatment. The AJC revealed that while Marcee’s mother wanted her to face consequences, she did not want her to live as a felon for the rest of her life.

In April, Marcee was granted a $5,700 bond per Fox 5 Atlanta. The outlet also notes that she faces up to 20 years in prison.

Marcee Warns Apalachee High School Before Shooting

Marcee’s arrest follows The Washington Post’s report that she called Apalachee High School the morning before her son opened fire. The incident on (Sept. 4), killed four and injured nine.

Colt Gray’s grandfather, Charles Polhamus, said Marcee called the school after receiving Colt’s text, “I’m sorry mom,” according to USA Today.

A call log shows Marcee called the school for 10 minutes at 9:50 a.m., just before Colt fired at 10:20 a.m.

“I was the one that notified the school counselor at the high school. I told them it was an extreme emergency and for them to go immediately and find my son to check on him,” according to a screenshot of text messages between Marcee and her sister.

TSR previously reported that Marcee called the deadly shooting “absolutely horrific” and regretted its impact on students and teachers.

“I am so, so sorry and can not fathom the pain and suffering they are going through right now,” Gray wrote in a text message to The Washington Post.

The Latest Info On Colt Gray’s Father’s Arrest

Colt Gray’s father, Colin Gray, is currently serving time in prison. The 54-year-old faces charges related to the Apalachee High School shooting.

The New York Post reports that Colin Gray faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, second-degree murder, and cruelty to children.

Authorities are also looking into whether he provided an AR-15-style rifle to Colt in December 2023, which he used in the Apalachee incident.

The latest filing states that Colin remains in custody without bond and could face up to 180 years in prison if convicted.

Both he and Colt are set to appear in court on December 4. Atlanta News First also reported that a grand jury will review formal charges against them on October 17.

TSR previously mentioned that Colt Gray requested separation from other inmates due to fears of backlash over the Apalachee school shooting.

The New York Post noted that he has received countless threats since authorities identified his son as the shooter. His legal team argued that assuming no inmates want to harm him would be reckless, according to NBC News.
