Jewel Says a Drug Bust in Mexico Inspired ‘You Were Meant for Me’

A visit to Italy inspired the National‘s first official live album, Rome, which will be released Dec. 13 on 4AD. The 21-track collection was recorded June 3 at Cavea at Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone and is being teased today (Sept. 23) with the four-song EP NTL RM EP I, featuring “I Need My Girl,” “Lemonworld,” “The Geese of Beverly Road” and “Lit Up.”

Rome was mixed by longtime National producer Peter Katis and spans nine different releases from across the group’s two-decade discography, although this particular show included an uncharacteristic seven songs from the 2010 album High Violet. Rome is further highlighted by the combination of “Humiliation” and the early tune “Murder Me Rachael,” the relative rarity “New Order T-Shirt” and a closing performance of “Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks” largely sung by the audience.
