Jordin Sparks Reveals An ‘Erratic’ Fan Once Jumped Into Her Car

In a recent interview, Jordin Sparks opened up about a bizarre encounter with a fan that left her both startled and amused.

Since winning “American Idol” at the age of 17 in 2007, Jordin Sparks has experienced her share of wild fan encounters — however, there is one story that stands out.

When Jordin Sparks was doing promo work in New York, there was a fan they were keeping their eyes on due to his “erratic” behavior.

“Someone did try and open my car door and jump in with me one time while I was doing promo in New York,” she told Us Weekly. “I was coming off of one of the morning shows, and we were already watching this person because their behavior was a little erratic. And then, boom, we got in the car, and she had her hand on the handle and I was like, ‘Oh my God, what is happening?’ That was definitely something I never thought I’d experience.”

Jordin Sparks toured with The Jonas Brothers for their world tour in 2009. “The height of their [fame] was just really intriguing to see and be part of, and also to be around their fans who love and adore them,” she told Us Weekly. “We would go up to a hotel, and all throughout the night, we would hear people saying their names outside the hotel.”

Sparks also toured with Britney Spears on the second leg of The Circus Starring Britney Spears tour in 2009, where she replaced Ciara as the opening act for the U.S. portion of the tour.

“And then, being on tour with Britney Spears, her fans are on another level,” she said. “From being a kid singing her songs to opening up for her — that was something crazy for me.”

After her victory on “American Idol,” Sparks released her self-titled debut album, which included the hit single “This Is My Now.”

She went on to release her second album, “Battlefield,” featuring popular tracks like “Battlefield” and “Tattoo.” Over the years, Sparks has earned multiple awards and nominations, including a Grammy nomination.

Alongside her music career, Jordin Sparks has also pursued acting. She made her Broadway debut in the musical “In the Heights” and featured in films like “Sparkle,” where she starred alongside Whitney Houston.

Jordin, who is the mother of four-year-old Dana Isaiah Thomas Jr. (DJ), confessed that she had “never experienced a home life” due to frequently moving during her childhood and then heading to Hollywood at the age of 17.

“When lockdown happened, I had time to actually just sit and think and experience time with my family and settle into what a home life could be, which really inspired me and helped me ground myself again,” she recalled.

“It helped me reconnect with myself, with my family, and also connect with that magic that music is,” she continued. “It was amazing to be able to get back into the booth and just create because I want to, not because there’s only three days a month I can get into the studio or else I’m not getting paid for another six months. I’m just really grateful for that time.”

Jordin recently collaborated with Robitussin and their partnership with the All Stars Project, Inc., a national nonprofit organization that offers free after-school development programs leveraging the power of performance for youth in underserved communities.

“It just made total sense for me to be involved — it makes sense to who I am, to where I’ve been in my life. I was the youth doing performing arts and using that as my creative outlet to help me find my own voice,” she said. “It’s awesome when you can partner together with an organization that not only does great things, but they believe that there’s bigger things at play here.”

“They believe that there’s the power behind every voice, so when we support the All Stars Project, Inc., we’re all taking steps to make sure that kids have access equitable access to all these development programs that use performance so that their voices can be heard,” Sparks added.
