Here’s the reveal trailer for an upcoming G.I. Joe video game titled G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra. This game looks like it was made for fun, but it’s kind of ridiculous that we have actually seen a badass modern G.I. Joe video game get made.
In the game, “Join franchise favorites like Duke, Scarlett, and Snake Eyes on a journey in the G.I. Joe franchise where the stakes are higher and the weapons are bigger. Thwart the conniving Cobra Commander in battles set at iconic locales like Cobra Island and the Pit. Explore Story or Arcade mode alone or with a squad via couch co-op.”
The game was developed by Maple Powered Games and published by Freedom Games, and it’s a beat ’em-up style game that lets you play as several iconic G.I. Joe characters in up to four-player online or co-op. The game also includes an arcade mode and story mode and features pixel art, cartoon cutscenes, and music from Tee Lopes and Crush 40 lead vocalist Johnny Gioeli.
Kerry Vandenberg, co-founder of Maple Powered Games said in a statement: “G.I. Joe is an absolute classic franchise with one of the best fanbases. Working on this game is a dream come true and it’s been a blast creating the game I’ve always wanted to see for G.I. Joe. We’re honored to give G.I. Joe fans the video game they deserve with the most authentic experience possible.”
Eugene Evans, SVP Digital Strategy and Licensing at Hasbro added: “G.I. Joe is one the most iconic brands from the 80s and it was the golden era of arcade games. To celebrate the growing popularity of retro themed games we’re thrilled to partner with Maple Powered Games and Freedom Games to bring G.I. Joe fans our first ever Hasbro Retro Arcade experience in this exciting interpretation of a classic 2D beat ‘em up.”
The game is set to release in Q1 of 2024 for the Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, and Linux.
