Kate McKinnon may have moved on from Saturday Night Live, but the thing is, she still lives near enough that she could swing by Studio 8H.

In a Monday appearance on the Today show, the multi-Emmy winner told co-host Savannah Guthrie that she would be open to the idea of returning to her comedic alma mater.

“You know … I do still live in New York, so it’s not too far of a train ride, couple stops,” she said, flashing a trademark smirk and seemingly knowing smile, before adding more resonantly, “Yeah I’ll come back. I would love to come back.”

Perhaps McKinnon’s plans are already formed: Earlier this year in April, the alum returned to perform alongside Ryan Gosling in a new iteration of the “Close Encounter” sketch for the Cold Open.

The comedian and writer was on the morning talk show to promote the release of her children’s book, The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science, which debuts tomorrow. During her interview, she said the idea for the novel had sparked when she was 26, though it came together as she “was learning how to write in all those 12 years I was at SNL … [from] some of the best minds.” (She also revealed that she had 500 drafts of the first chapter in her computer, joking that she should have probably completed the work before going back in to edit.)

Saturday Night Live, whose crucial first broadcast and moments are now the subject of the forthcoming Saturday Night from director Jason Reitman, premiered its 50th season over the weekend, with host Jean Smart and musical guest Jelly Roll. The broadcast took on everything from New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ indictment and internet sensation Moo Deng to the return of Maya Rudolph’s Kamala Harris impression.
