Is David Corenswet getting gains of steel? The actor details his grueling training regiment to join the DC Universe as Superman.

It’s no secret that David Corenswet has become shredded during his journey to play Superman. However, given how sparse the actor has been on social media, it hasn’t been clear exactly how much muscle he’s gained during his training. The true number was revealed during a recent appearance on the Manly Things (Sort Of) podcast, revealing an absolutely staggering transformation for his role in the brand new DC Universe.

“I was 238 at my max,” The Superman star explained when talking about his intense training to join the DC Universe. “I didn’t fit into any of my pants. That was at the peak of my bulk.”

238 is staggeringly impressive for a bulk, especially given former pro-wrestler and DC Universe co-star John Cena sits only 13 pounds higher. It’s also nearly 50 pounds heavier than Henry Cavill’s reporter 190 pounds when shooting Man of Steel. It’s no wonder that David Corenswet was staying off social media when news broke that he was cast as Superman. It’s likely that he was in the gym 24/7 training for his role!

Is David Corenswet Too Swole For Superman?

This may worry some fans that David Corenswet will be bursting out of his spandex when Superman finally hits the silver screen. However, it seems that the actor slowed down his training and gains as production on the DC Universe ramped up. According to Corenswet, he lost a few pounds of that muscle when cutting his physique.

“…I slowly lost weight before we started shooting,” Correnwet assured during the conversation about his training arc. “I started shooting at about 228, 230…I know I wanted this to be my excuse to see what it felt like to gain essentially as much weight as I could.”

230 is still absolutely nothing to scoff at. David Corenswet’s transformation to become Superman will likely go down in the history books as one of the most impressive in all of superhero media. He’s not the only one either. DC Universe co-stars Edi Gathegi and María Gabriela De Faría were both equally as ripped as production started, meaning there will be muscles aplenty once the film hits the big screen!

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
