Who Is Leaving & Coming to Young & Restless This Week (Sept 8-12)?

Marie Botha’s Magpie greatly intrigued fans following her introduction on The Penguin, thanks to her deranged looks, creepy personality, and grim fate at Sofia Falcone’s hands. Accordingly, fans are wondering if the Batman and DC villain is dead or alive in the show. Moreover, they are also curious about how her powers work in the DC Universe.

Here is what you need to know about Magpie’s fate in The Penguin and her powers in comic books.

Is Magpie dead or alive on The Penguin?

Magpie is dead in The Penguin.

Magpie dies after Sofia Falcone brutally attacks her at the Arkham cafeteria. Botha, herself confirmed that Magpie’s death happened instead of being a scenario in Sofia’s imagination in a recent Screenrant interview, saying “Sofia really did murder Magpie.” However, she did address Magpie’s resurrection in the comics following the Blackest Night event and that there was a part of her that was “not quite ready” to part ways with the role.

In the interview, Botha also shared her ideas for how to further explore Magpie’s story, in the event it is revealed she did not actually die. One of these is her unique relationship with Batman in the comics, where she becomes obsessed with him after he shows her kindness. Here, she also likened Magpie’s character to her own upbringing.

What are Magpie’s powers in the DC Universe?

In the comics, Magpie possesses nails that can be extended to form strong sharp claws. She is also a skilled combatant, seductress, and thief. Moreover, Magpie is also a highly capable gadget-user, carrying several unique items in her pouch, like an explosive dart gun, and poisonous acid gas pellets. Her gloves are also fitted with spring-loaded needles coated with a venom, capable of paralyzing her opponents.

Marie Botha’s Magpie is the third live-action version of the character following Rachel Matthews’ iteration of the character in The CW’s Batwoman and Sarah Schenkkan’s version in Gotham.
