A young girl named Krystel Romero is dead, and another girl has reportedly been critically injured following a subway surfing incident in New York City.

More Details On The Tragic Subway Surfing Incident

According to the New York Post, the incident occurred during the evening of Sunday, October 27, around 11 p.m.. The two girls were reportedly surfing on top of a southbound 7 train when they fell between train cars. Afterward, the pair were reportedly run over.  Furthermore, the incident reportedly happened at the 111th Street station in Corona, Queens.

According to PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the NYPD has reportedly shared that Romero was 13 years old while the second girl is 12 years old.

Per the New York Post, the incident marked the sixth fatal subway surfing incident this year in the city. Last week, a 13-year-old named Aldofo Sorzano reportedly lost his life while surfing at the Forest Avenue station. Additionally, in September, an 11-year-old passed away while surfing atop a G train in Brooklyn.

More Details On Krystel Romero & The Condition Of The Injured Victim

According to the New York Post, Romero was pronounced dead at the scene of the Corona incident. Additionally, the second teenager was reportedly rushed to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.

The outlet reports that sources say she reportedly sustained a “fractured skull and brain bleeding” and “was unable to breathe on her own.”

Per the New York Post, a source has shared that Romero’s mother is “really in shock” and “still can’t believe it.”

“Krystel’s mom told her not to do anything like this,” the friend, only identified as “Ever,” explained. “I don’t know what made her take this decision. Kids these days are doing all these things for social media. Maybe it was a bad influence from friends. Maybe it was a bet. Krystel was even afraid to go on the trains. She never wanted to go places on the subway, so we’d always catch taxis.”

Another Tragic Death Recently Made Headlines In New York City

The fatal subway surfing incident, unfortunately, isn’t the only tragedy to impact New York City in recent weeks. As The Shade Room previously reported, on October 12, an elderly woman was reportedly decapitated after she allegedly jumped from the 28th floor of the Park Regis Apartments in the Upper East Side.

Furthermore, witnesses were reportedly present during the time of the incident.
