Director Christopher Landon recently provided an update on Happy Death Day 3.

In 2017, Landon directed the Blumhouse box office hit Happy Death Day. The film starred Jessica Rothe as Tree, a girl who gets murdered on her birthday and finds herself trapped in a time loop that allows her to relive the same day over and over again, giving her the opportunity to catch her killer. The black comedy slasher earned $125.5 million against a $4.8 million budget and spawned a sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, released in 2019.

While Happy Death Day 2U remained immensely profitable, raking in $64.6 million at the box office against a $9 million budget, it was not as much of a hit as the first movie. Since then, the idea of a third movie in the series has remained up in the air.

Landon attended BlumFest at New York Comic Con to promote his upcoming thriller, Drop. ComingSoon caught up with him to see if we would ever see a Happy Death Day 3.

Will there be another Happy Death Day?

Nothing has been confirmed yet. When asked about it, Landon joked, “You’re talking to the wrong guy. The guy who has no power, who has no control over anything in his life or outside of it.”

He followed this up by saying, “I would do it in a heartbeat, but it’s definitely a Jason Blum/Universal [decision]. It’s up to the people with the money.”

Back in 2020, Landon mentioned having an idea for the third film and saying it had the working title, Happy Death Day to Us. Landon also confirmed in February 2023 that he had pitched the film to Universal. The first two films were produced by Blumhouse Productions and starred Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Phi Vu, and Ruby Modine.

‘Bring Them Down’ is probably one of the best films I’ve ever seen. A brutal and believable examination of old family grudges in rural communities. Superbly shot. Sharp and to the point. As beautiful a piece of art as it is a moral reminder of how anger can lose everyone the battle.
