After it debuted out of the blue on an NTS Radio show last week, the new LCD Soundsystem song “X-Ray Eyes” has now hit streaming services. The song will also be available on a limited-edition, screen-printed 12-inch vinyl single backed with a “trash can dub remix” at upcoming shows and via the DFA Records web site.
“X-Ray Eyes” is dominated by vintage synth bloops and is slightly reminiscent of a slower “North American Scum” from LCD’s 2007 album Sound of Silver. Throughout, frontman James Murphy drolly intones ominous lyrics such as “I can see right through your disguise / I know you’ve got nothing to hide.” The track was written by Murphy with bandmates Al Doyle and Nancy Whang, with Murphy producing for DFA Productions.

This is the first new song from LCD since 2022’s “New Body Rhumba,” which itself snapped a five-year quiet streak following the 2017 album american dream. “New Body Rhumba” was written for, and appeared in, Noah Baumbach’s Netflix adaptation of Don DeLillo’s classic 1985 novel White Noise.
Although SPIN first reported it nearly a year ago, Murphy has finally confirmed that a new LCD Soundsystem album is in the works. “Don’t ask me when that is, because we’re still working on it,” he wrote on Instagram. “But it feels very good to be putting out new music.” He adds, “No, there’s no finished LP yet. But when we’re not playing shows, it’s getting close and closer to completion. So that’s the news. Anything else you hear is bullshit speculation.”
LCD began an eight-show Los Angeles residency last night on Halloween (Oct. 31) at Shrine Expo Hall, during which they debuted “X-Ray Eyes” as well as a set-opening cover of the Bauhaus classic “Bela Lugosi’s Dead.” Their annual 12-show holiday run in New York will be held at Knockdown Center on Nov. 21-24, Dec. 5-8 and Dec. 12-15.
