While Shygirl was crushing performances onstage as the supporting act for Charli XCX and Troye Sivan‘s recently wrapped Sweat tour, a lot more was happening behind the scenes and on the road.
“We would get off the tour bus at every truck stop just to look at and buy every souvenir that caught our eye,” Shygirl tells Billboard. “So many key rings so little time!”
Indeed, the three artists and a sprawling crew traversed North America by bus in September and October while on the 22-date tour, which kicked off Sept. 14 in Detroit and quickly became a white hot ticket, selling out venues including Madison Square Garden and Kia Forum before concluding in Seattle on Oct. 23.
Surprise guests included Lorde, Kesha and Saweetie, the last of whom made an appearance at the Oct. 20 show in San Francisco for the debut of “Immaculate,” the recently released Saweetie/Shygirl colla. Shygirl helped create the show’s lauded club atmosphere, bringing the vibes of her own Club Shy parties to the run, along with her shimmering brand of dance music, which includes her own catalog and her turn on the “365” edit from Charli’s Brat remix album, Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat.
“[This tour] doesn’t take itself too seriously — people dance like crazy,” the Sweat tour’s creative director Imogene Strauss recently told Billboard. “Turning an arena into a club was the No. 1 challenge, and when the arena was literally shaking, I was like, ‘OK, success.’”
