Bill Maher Calls Out Democrats After Donald Trump’s Election Win

The comedian claimed it was a misstep for the party not to anticipate a possible second-term win for Trump while confirming that he voted for the outgoing vice president.

Bill Maher had previously predicted that Harris would emerge victorious but later voiced concerns that the results might not be in her favor because support for her among Black male voters had waned.

During his “Real Time” monologue on HBO Friday night, Bill Maher joined the ranks of celebrities weighing in on the presidential election outcome, which went in favor of Trump and the Republican Party.

The show host, who stated he voted for Harris, was unapologetic in emphasizing that Democrats needed serious self-reflection to understand where things went wrong.

“My message to the losers: losers look in the mirror,” Maher told his audience about Trump’s presidential election win, per the New York Post.

“No? Well, maybe you should. Well, that’s my feeling. Losers look in the mirror. For months, Democrats have been saying, ‘How is this even close?’ and they’re right, it wasn’t.”

Maher also mentioned that it was a huge mistake that the Democrats didn’t account for the possibility of Trump winning, which might have helped them prepare better to thwart it if they had done so.

He added, “They could not conceive of a second Trump term, but they should’ve. When does America ever turn down second?”

In his monologue, Maher also pointed out that Trump’s victory was comprehensive even across swing states, saying that the incoming president “ran the table.”

He also seemed to explain that this victory was due to Trump performing far better in every voting demographic, especially in minority groups like Latinos and Asians, as well as with Black male voters.

This surge in support for the billionaire mogul across these demographics earned him nearly 9 million more votes than he received in 2016, which came as a shock for the Democrats.

Meanwhile, Maher had earlier mentioned that with the election now decided in favor of the Republicans, it was time to watch how they handle the power they have been given.

“We had an election,” Maher remarked. “I did not vote for the winner; we’ll see what the winners do now. They won, now they have reality they have to deal with. We’ll see what they do.”

Maher had previously voiced concerns that earlier polls weren’t showing Harris would secure the full support of Black male voters.

According to the comedian, Harris’s black heritage should have guaranteed her full support from that demographic, and it was disappointing that it wasn’t the case at the time.

“This is not a good sign, you know – when you have an African American candidate, you probably shouldn’t be having to shore up your support among black men, but that’s what’s going on,” he said during an episode from last month.

Eventually, 78% of Black Men voted for Harris, a figure which was lower than the 80% President Joe Biden had in 2020, per the NBC News National Exit Poll.

Before the election was called in his favor, Trump gave his victory speech from a stage in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“We’ve achieved the most incredible political thing,” the billionaire mogul told the supporters who gathered as part of a campaign watch party, per the New York Times. “This was the greatest political movement of all time.”

He also thanked his VP candidate, JD Vance, and billionaire Elon Musk for their support throughout the campaign and called the election a “historic realignment” of American interests.

Trump added, “I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe, and prosperous America that our children deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America.”

The vice president has since conceded the election and urged her supporters to accept Trump’s victory while encouraging them to continue to “never give up” their ideals.

Speaking to a crowd at Howard University, her alma mater, Harris said that “the outcome of this election is not what we wanted,” however, she emphasized the importance of a peaceful transfer of power.

The vice president declared passionately, “Hear me when I say the light of America’s promise will always burn bright. As long as we never give up, and as long as we keep fighting.”

Harris also took time to thank her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as well as her campaign staff, supporters, and the many election officials and poll workers who made the election possible. The audience was visibly emotional, with many wiping away tears.

With a small smile, Harris acknowledged the mood, saying, “I know folks are experiencing a range of emotions right now. I get it. But we must respect the results of this election.”
