Warner Bros. is looking to cast Mark Rylance as Dumbledore in its upcoming Harry Potter streaming Series. Rylance is a great choice for the role, but the deal is not done.
According to Variety, Rylance is their top choice, but Warner Bros. Television hasn’t yet started negotiations with the actor, but the studio has reached out to gauge his interest and availability.
When asked for a comment on the casting, a representative for HBO said: “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”
HBO’s currently on the hunt for a new trio of young actors to play the iconic roles of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. They launched an open casting call a few months ago for children from the UK and Ireland to audition for the leads.
It will be interesting to see how the cast for this fantasy series comes together. But, it would be cool to see Rylance take on the role of Dumbledore.
