It’s been about 10 months since Common appeared on Jennifer Hudson’s show and confirmed what the media has been speculating for years about the nature of their relationship.
Now that the two have confirmed that they are an official item, their fans want to know if wedding bells are to be expected in their future. According to Common, the idea isn’t out of the question, in fact, he recently confirmed that marriage has been a topic of discussion for the Breathe stars.
Grinning ear-to-ear during his sit down with Entertainment Tonight, Common said in a Nov. 5 interview, “The marriage thing we talked about it, we talked about it and said – you know, I said what I said, if Imma get married, it would be to her. And that’s not changing.”
It’s not clear where Hudson stands on the subject of marriage, as Common seems to have been the one that’s been asked about it the most since their relationship. The Dreamgirls star does have a little experience in the marriage department as she has been a wife before to former wrestler David Otunga. The two even have a son, David Otunga Jr., who is now 15 years old.
Like Hudson, Common has one child, his 27-year-old daughter Omoye Assata Lynn, whom he shares with his ex Kim Jones. And while Common has had several girlfriends – many of them who are well-known to the public – he’s seemingly never found “the one” to pop the question to.
His list of exes includes comedian-actress Tiffany Haddish, political analyst Angela Rye, tennis icon Serena Williams, star-studded actress Taraji P. Henson, and Grammy-Award-winning artist Erykah Badu.
And it may not have anything to do with the women themselves but more so Common’s hesitation about walking down the aisle. In September, he chatted with Philadelphia radio station 100.3 WRNB and said, “Marriage is something that if I were to get married then Jennifer is the person. But she’s not only the prototype, she is the person. But that being said…it’s one of those things where I’m like always looking at my life and saying okay – because, that’s a strong choice to make and not to be taken lightly.”
He added, “Because sometimes I wonder…‘Okay I’m at this age, what’s the purpose of getting married right now’? But it is some purpose in it. So you know if that is to happen…Jennifer.”
