Rashida Jones honored her legendary father, Quincy Jones while accepting his honorary Lifetime Achievement Oscar at the 15th Governors Awards. Her siblings Martin, Quincy III, and Kenya were present at the ceremony.

Before his death, Quincy Jones had been preparing to attend the ceremony and had written his acceptance speech. Rashida honored his memory by sharing his words, in which he reflected on his journey from a teenager in Seattle who dreamed of composing music for films to working with renowned filmmakers like Steven Spielberg and Richard Brooks. Quincy wrote, “When I was a young film composer, you didn’t even see faces of color working in the studio commissaries. I’m so, so proud of the fact that my name and contributions can be included in that evolution.”
According to TOO FAB, Rashida shared that it was challenging for the family to attend the event so soon after his passing, but she emphasized the importance of honoring his legacy. “It was a tough decision for our family to be here tonight, but we wanted to celebrate his beautiful life and career,” she explained.

“Hear how he infused loved into every single second of music he made. That was his real legacy, love. He often said, ‘Live every day like it’s your last, and one day, you’ll be alright.’ And you did, Dad. You lived the biggest, best, most beautiful life of love every single day.”
Quincy Jones passed away on November 3 at the age of 90 after battling pancreatic cancer. A private ceremony was held by close family and loved ones in Los Angeles but a public memorial is planned for the next several weeks.
