David Fincher’s classic 1995 film Se7en will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a surprise IMAX theatrical release as well as a 4K Ultra HD + Digital release.
Warner Bros. announced that Se7en will begin its exclusive IMAX run on January 3, 2025. The 4K Ultra HD + Digital release will follow on January 7th.
I remember watching this film in theaters for the first time. I was 15 or 16 years old, and I was speechless. I loved the movie, but the situation behind watching it is funny because it was a church youth group trip to the movies! No one knew what it was when we went to see it, no one knew what we were getting ourselves into.
Director David Fincher supervised the new 4K restoration, presented in HDR10 with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Fincher said of the Se7en restoration:
“We’re going back and doing it in 4K from the original negative, and we overscan it, oversample it, doing all of the due diligence, and there’s a lot of shit that needs to be fixed,”
He continued: “Because there’s a lot of stuff that we now can add because of high dynamic range. You know, streaming media is a very different thing than 35mm motion picture negative in terms of what it can actually retain.
“So there are, you know, a lot of blown-out windows that we have to kind of go back and ghost in a little bit of cityscape out there.”
Two packaging options will be available: a SteelBook edition and a fold-out DigiPak housed in a rigid slipcase.

Se7en is a dark psychological thriller that follows two detectives, the seasoned William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) and the hotheaded newcomer David Mills (Brad Pitt), as they investigate a series of gruesome murders in a rain-soaked, unnamed city.
