When it comes to fire safety, Jordin Sparks doesn’t play around. As a mother and wife, the Grammy Award-winning songstress takes pride in keeping her family safe.

Recently, she lent her voice to the Kidde “Living Jingle” campaign, to highlight the stories of children who have been impacted by house fires. For her, being a musician helps her to understand the importance of connecting with others through music. Since the beginning of her career, Sparks has maintained sharing positive messages through her music and the latest campaign with Kidde for Cause For Alarm is proof in the pudding.

“As a musician, I know that songs can help make a message stick. Kidde’s “Living Jingle” drew me in because of its meaningful message,” she told MadameNoire. “If I can use my voice to help spread that message in a way that will help other families, I’m on board.”

Sparks added, “The fact that these young kids were brave enough to share their personal home fire survival stories is so powerful. The Living Jingle is part of Kidde’s Cause For Alarm campaign, which addresses gaps in education and access to fire safety measures by providing resources and life-saving devices to vulnerable communities. For the past two years, the campaign has focused on reaching parents and children to help address the heartbreaking reality that every day in the U.S., a child loses their life in a house fire. As a parent of a young child, this issue feels especially personal to me.”

For a third year, Kidde’s Cause For Alarm campaign continues to support vulnerable communities that are at a higher risk of fire-related incidents. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Black children are more likely to be affected by white children, with studies revealing that Black kids experience twice the rate of fire deaths and injuries in comparison to their white peers.

As a boy mom, Sparks says it was without a question she’d be on board to support the initiative spearheaded by Kidde’s Cause For Alarm.

“When it comes to home safety, I want DJ to understand that having a plan is crucial. That way, in any scenario, he can hopefully feel safe and confident if an emergency occurs,” Sparks said. “No one likes to think about dangers in their own home, but as a parent, I must embrace the responsibility of teaching DJ about house fires and what to do. We talk about the fastest ways to get out of the house and what we do when we hear beeps. These discussions not only benefit him, but they serve as a valuable refresher for me!”

When she first heard the “Living Jingle,” which she lent her voice to, Sparks says she was deeply moved by the emotional message the team worked to convey in their messaging around fire safety.

“I was in awe. The kids featured in the film truly blew me away with their vulnerability,” the “No Air” singer expressed. “I’m proud to support this message as it not only provides valuable tools for parents to protect their families but also has the potential to make a real impact and save lives. It’s incredibly rewarding to be involved in something that helps people feel more secure in their homes.”

While addressing fire safety can seem daunting, Sparks says that focusing on one thing at a time is extremely helpful, as is using music to remind one of how the task at hand should be handled.

“When I was growing up, music was a familiar tool that helped me retain information and remember things – that I still remember today! Since partnering with Kidde, DJ and I have checked our smoke alarms, and have been listening to the jingle and practicing our fire escape plan,” said Sparks. “DJ is at a very curious age and he’s constantly asking questions, so we’re using that as an opportunity to learn and have important conversations about fire safety.”
