Elon Musk and Grimes settled their custody dispute in Texas on Wednesday. Before the settlement, the former couple met in August, and their legal representatives had an additional meeting before resolving. In September 2023, Musk filed a lawsuit against Grimes, and later that month, she responded by filing a countersuit in a San Francisco court.

While resolving the custody dispute, Grimes took to X to share her thoughts about her relationship with Musk and the challenges she faced during the custody battle for her three children. “Spent a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers rights having my instagram posts and modeling used as reasons I shouldn’t have my kids and fighting and detaching from the love of my life as he becomes unrecognizable to me, with a fraction of his resources (or iq/ strategy experience), all the while I didn’t see one of my babies for 5 months,” she wrote in the lengthy post.
“And this is only what can be said publicly, since most of my experience these last years should remain behind closed doors,” she continued. Musk has not commented on the custody dispute. According to the Daily Beast, Grimes attempted to contact him through his social media platform. The former couple shares three children: 4-year-old X Æ A-Xii and 2-year-olds Techno Mechanicus and Exa Dark Sideræl. They dated from 2018 to 2022.

Grimes also discussed the financial strain the legal battle caused in another post: “I just slept and cried every minute I wasn’t explicitly fighting for my kids during that year.“
Despite the legal issue, Musk has primarily focused on endorsing Donald Trump. He was recently named the newly-formed Department of Government Efficiency and built a compound in Texas to house his family.
